The Deltavit piglet natal mortality diagnostic tool offers a simple, unique and standardised solution for livestock presenting a high mortality rate in the two days following birth. It helps breeders implement effective action plans to significantly cut their losses. By carrying out autopsies on dead piglets from 20 births (a large number of animals (maximum 60) and not just a few as is often the case these days), the DELTAVIT Laboratory identifies and lists the causes of piglet mortality as well as its frequency. This lets breeders focus their efforts on the actual cause or causes of natal mortality, guaranteeing more rapid progress. Bringing the natal mortality rate down to 1.9 deaths per litter (national average) would help save €134/sow/year, or €17,420/sow/year for 130 sows!
